| 21st Century Skyscraper Requires 21st Century Elevator System |
|
| Hauppauge, New York (August 2003) – Elevator display and control specialist e-motive display USA has supplied an Elevator Monitoring System to the new Constellation Place office tower in Los Angeles, California. The 35-storey building, also known as MGM Tower for its lead tenant, is billed as the first skyscraper of the 21st century to be built in Los Angeles. |
 |
The Elevator Monitoring System is the first system installed in the US by e-motive display for Mitsubishi Electric & Electronics (USA). It will be the central monitoring station for all of the 22 elevators in the building. The monitoring system tracks real-time elevator movement and the current status of all the cars (including, but not limited to, position, travel direction, door status, and car/hall calls). Convenient remote operational control enables management of various commands to each elevator including placement of car calls, floor lockout and return operation. With the system, users can schedule changes, such as peak time service, or access elevators in real-time for immediate control.
The monitoring system also includes an Advanced Traffic Analysis package to diagnose elevator problems and evaluate performance. The performance of each elevator is presented in the form of graphic analysis. Consultants and building owners can track vital statistics such as average hall call waiting times, maximum waiting time, percentage of long waits, and hall call counts for each elevator or specific landings. An IBM compatible PC with an MS Windows NT platform provides users with a familiar graphical point and click interface for ease of use.
The system was installed by Mitsubishi Electric and Electronics’ Elevator and Escalator Division (Cypress, CA) and used Mitsubishi’s serial protocol. This serial protocol reduces the amount of wires required from each elevator group controller, simplifying installation and saving labour costs.
Constellation Place is ownedby JMB Realty Corp. of Chicago and was designed by Johnson Fain Partners of Los Angeles. The postmodern high-rise is located on six acres in Los Angeles’ Century City entertainment district. The corporate offices of entertainment giant MGM will occupy 18 floors of the building. The remainder of the 704,000 square feet of office space is leased by a variety of tenants. The facility also has two parking structures with a total of 2,780 spaces and a unique pedestrian level, highlighted by an all-glass central lobby and public park. |
